Kailzie Gardens is a renowned garden and woodland just a mile east of Peebles in the Scottish Borders.

At Kailzie you will discover 20 acres of gardens and woodlands laid down by generations of passionate gardeners.

Kailzie Gardens also boasts the popular Courtyard Café that has become a firm favourite with locals. Add to this, our seasonal shop offering local produce, gifts and plant sales, the children’s nature trail and a chance to have a go on the Gardener’s 18 hole putting green, or a game of pétanque and you have the makings of an enjoyable and rewarding visit.

We are dog friendly and parking is free and easy!

The gardens provide a rich variety of colour, charm and interest throughout the year, if you are a keen gardener or if you simply want to enjoy a beautiful garden and woodlands with burnside walks and stunning views in an intimate, peaceful atmosphere.

All the elements of a classic garden are here set off by the magnificent 19th century walled garden featuring one of the oldest surviving Mackenzie and Moncur Glasshouses, herbaceous borders, hedges, immaculate lawns, a formal rose garden and flower and vegetable garden.

Wild woodland garden

The surrounding wild woodland garden has one of the best laid arboretums in Scotland with champion and heritage trees including Scotland’s oldest larch tree.

They also play host to Kailzie’s famous snowdrops displays in February and March followed by seasonal displays of bluebells, daffodils and then a riot of colour in May and June from the azaleas delicately interspersed with our collection of the blue poppy – the meconopsis.

The Courtyard Café

Entry to the gardens is not needed to enjoy the café.

Our chefs where possible use produce sourced from the gardens. Enjoy a glass of wine with your meal while sitting in the flower packed courtyard over the summer or inside in the cooler months when the log burners will create a cosy atmosphere.
